ONE-COAT AND THREE-COAT STUCCO

Just like there’s synthetic vs. hard-coat stucco, when it comes to traditional stucco there’s also one-coat vs. three-coat applications. Here’s what you need to know:

ONE-COAT STUCCO

One-coat stucco is a more modern way of applying stucco that combines the scratch and brown coat into a single step. It takes less time and costs less, however it’s thinner than the traditional three-coat process and may not hold up as long without minor maintenance and repairs.

THREE-COAT STUCCO

Three-coat stucco is the original stucco process and involves a lath, a scratch coat, a brown coat and a finish coat. The name comes from the three main steps (excluding finishing). It’s widely considered the strongest and most durable way to apply stucco, however it’s also the most expensive and takes the longest to apply.

INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR STUCCO

While stucco is traditionally an exterior façade application, the team at Home Base Home Improvements is also able to provide stucco for your home’s interior where needed. We have experience with stucco for fireplaces, mantles and chimneys. Our interior stucco services are available upon request.
